Yes, that's right, I've managed to find my old blogspace and begin once again sharing my thoughts with you all beautiful people.

It's been a long hiatus and I'm guilty of ignoring you all, but let's get things back on track shall we?

Random thought #1:
Just recently got a cool Motorola Bluetooth headset. Love it. Only thing is, I use it in 2 situations:
1) Driving. Can't really avoid grandmas with one hand on the phone.
2) Office. So I'm able to simultaneously Google buzzwords that my counterparts are uttering in mid sentence during phone conferences so I actually have an idea what the meeting is about.

Using Bluetooth any where else? Not cool. No one cares that you're Bluetooth enabled - especially if you think you're too high-tech to carry a phone in a mall.

Random thought #2:
Spoke to ex-boss recently and he was going off about how his little boy is getting all smart. Apparently, he knows to pull kitchen drawers halfway out and use them as makeshift steps to climb on to the counter. Apparently, he knows how to switch the TV to the channel he likes, not because he knows how to read #'s yet, but has watched the fingers of his dad pressing the numbers so he knows which buttons to press. This kid is amazing! I was like, that's not a toddler, that's a velociraptor.

Random thought #3:
I honestly think that I will seriously go out and buy a new shirt sometimes, rather than cleaning it.

Random thought #4:
Are we getting that dumb? Can we only retain 2 numbers at a time? How come when I call a friend to get a phone number, they have to scroll through their cell phone address book to retrieve it, and they can only recall and relay numbers to me like 2 digits at a time?

Random thought #5:
Liquor ads always say at the bottom "Enjoy responsibly".
Dude, that's an oxymoron! Firstly, you can't enjoy liquor responsibly - that's an oxymoron like "jumbo shrimp". Throwing up in someone's house = irresponsible. Throwing up in the garbage can = responsible. Throwing up in the garbage can with no bag = irresponsible. Which goes to show you that drinking responsibily is really just relative.

Random thought #6:
New trend of girls' jeans with tapered and tight at the ankles looks dumb. They're hard to remove while doing the ooh-la-la. What I'd like to see next is girls' jeans that rip off like basketball warm-ups, but I'm fine settling with boot-cuts.

Random thought #7:
Ever listen to rap music on mainstream radio and they bleep out words you didn't even know were curses?

Random thought #8:
When you rent stuff, and they say there's a "non-refundable deposit", isn't that just a fee?

Random thought #9:
A while back, for a lack of better options available, I bought a coffee and a scone at a coffee shop. When the cashier rung me up for $3.60, I asked, "oh, did you ring in my coffee too". Casher replies "of course silly, that'd be a pretty expensive scone then wouldn't it?". Haha, I thought about it for a while before realizing that no, I had no idea whatsoever whether that's an expensive scone or not...

Yup...apparently I've officially crawled under a dark rock in a muggy wet dark cave and ceased to exist in this world for the last 2 weeks. Just to let all the dear ones know out there that I do still walk this earth, here's an update on me for the last little while.

1. Busy with work.

I think you get the general jist of that.
However, I am itching to get out for game night on Thursday 'Nuckleheads vs. Sabres 7pm Sportsnet West @ Earl's. You heard it here first. If down, gimme a holla because I'm down to see these expansion cousins go head to head.

Canucks doing pretty well lately.
I think it coincided with the fact that I was going to go to that Calgary game in box seats a while back. Yes - for those following, Canucks were in a little bit of a slide losing bout 7 of 8. Hey, IMO, I rather see them goin on a 20 game skid now and tear it up in April going into the playoffs rather than to see them begin losing in April. Nonetheless, DC gets box seats for the Calgary game and 'Nucks win in OT. Since then, record improves to winning 5 of 6. Coincidence? I think not. Playing in my favor. Yes, I think so. Because I don't need to do any convincing for people to understand that the world revolves under my feet.

You heard here first: DC heading to another box seat game for representing my company for the Sun Run. 'Nuckleheads vs. Columbus Blue Jackets!

What else is new?

1. DC to be a guest speaker back at UBC during a Lunch n' Learn on Feb 23 speaking on "De-mything Sales". Yes, I "am" that important.

2. Still looking forward towards seeing Wedding Crashers. Heard its funny. Tried to rent it last weekend with the girlfriend - they were out. Ended up watching the worst movie of all time. Exorcism of Emily Rose. Not that the movie was that bad, but more because the damn DVD was scratched and the movie froze/skipped during all climatic scenes. Douche-bag Blockbusters!

3. Spent the best 4 hours of my life in the last 2 days watching the new season 5 of 24. Yah that's right. Jack Bauer is so man and he's back to rip it up in Day 5. Gotta watch Prison Break too. God, the reality shows are beginning again as the girl is already caught up watching Bachelor.

4. Natalie Portman's hair is growing back. Still cute though.

5. Worked the West Coast Bridal Trends event this past weekend. Not too exciting. Did I mention that the sex show was next door? That was pretty exciting.

6. Didn't I take pictures at the New Year's Eve event? Yah, I think I did too. You're all probably expecting pictures sometime soon. That would be nice wouldn't it. Yah, I think it would be nice.

7. I like reading, but why is it taking me so long to finish The Da Vinci Code when I clearly like it and cannot put it down everytime I pick it up? Probably because I'm occupying myself lately uploading the New Year's Eve pictures.

8. Ovechkin > Crosby. This kid is unbelievable. I call him a kid because he's 20, but then again, he's 6'2, 212 lbs. Anyone see the goal he scored the other night on his back? I'll try to find a link.

So, just came back from Hawaii: the greatest 4 days I've experienced in a while. It was fan-freakin-tastic. Everything that I wanted it to be. Hopefully Dy-lon had a good time too as it was mainly to help celebrate the fact that Dy-long got hitched as well!! Another wedding to come soon!

Thursday:
> Caught the morning flight to Hawaii. 6 hour flight + 2 hour in lost time through time zones + a spilled oranged juice (thanks Wally) finally got me to Hawaii.

Tight, competitive game - great goaltending (by Cujo not Danny), a fight (by Carter of all people), timely goal and a controversial game winner by Cookie. What an awesome game...Had to watch my head though. Had club seats where I was 8th row in the corner, but glass height which means perfect height for stray pucks or defensemen clearing pucks off the boards from behind the net...should've brought my helmet =)

Found out today that I'm committing myself to going to Prince George again. I told my parents that I was going to break-in my new truck and drive up there - besides, that's why I bought it right? No way in hell I'm doing that. Not really about the weather and driving conditions though, more about the fact that I don't have a bug deflector yet. Have you seen the bugs that can get on your dash? Yah - not pretty.

Anyhow, parents, as usual, were worried. Mom is the worry wort while my dad has a different way to handle these situations. When I said that I was going to drive up to Prince George in one day, he simply said in Chinese, "Don't be a hero." I'm not even sure what that means...

Here's a good one: What's worse than falling down the stairs? When you think there's one more step, but there really isn't. You end up doing that awkward lunging motion where your feet hits the floor unexpectedly and your stomach goes flying into your brain - which evidently wasn't being used to start with.

Wow...never realized that it's been a whole 2 months since my last blog...well, time to get back into this...

So what's happened in the last 2 months?...Hmmm...well, I've been working like crazy at the job that I still consider to be new, I've been managing my finances because of a huge purchase and I've been watching hockey...which is a great thing...

Raph's Bday at The Mill

For those of you that know me, one my biggest pet peeves is QUES. Yes, that's right, line-ups. I absolutely freakin hate them. No better way to ruin my day then to put my ass in a line-up. I'm an impatient guy as it is, but put me in a line-up and the reward at the end of line-up will never live up to the expectations that I had prior to walking into the line-up. Point in case, clubs! Man I hate lining up for clubs. Not only do you know that the gimmick is for the club to keep a line-up outside because they want others to perceive the club to be a happening place where there are a ton of people trying to get in, but when you do get in there, club is either half empty or its sausage-galore - disappointment and which probably means I'm making a U-turn back towards the exit.

I've officially made my girlfriend into a "hockey widow" - that's right, she's lost me to hockey. Well, the best part of this is that I'm slowly trying to mold her into the best hockey sidekick. She now wants to watch the games, hates the rival teams and even wears the home team jersey that I bought her. But then there are the days when the sydrome wears off for her and she actually wants to "do stuff" while I'm watching the minutes tick away to the puck drop. This becomes a difficult situation as she probably wonders whether I prefer to be spending time with her OR watching the game instead. My reponse: I've known hockey longer...Yah, she's a hockey widow...

Here I am in Vernon BC eating up the 31 degree weather...F*CK its hot...blasting the air con and wondering who will be coming with me to Whistler during this upcoming weekend. It should definitely be some good times. Let's see...

Things we won't do in Whistler:
1. Not walk aimlessly into a club filled with hongers waving glowsticks like Plaza that night despite being absolutely misled by Es' comments that it was a "great crowd" that night.
2. Sleep in all morning and drink coffee during prime time. *Ahem Wally* Instead, refer to point #3 below.
3. Drown ourselves in sorrow about how the Vegas mishap was a lost opportunity. Instead, refer to point #4 below.

Things we will do in Whistler:
1. Have Wally giving us more french lessons. "We'll start with word french fries..."
2. Have all the boys end up EXACTLY the way that Jo was when she walked out of Kobe.
3. Partay till the sun comes up only to partay till the sun goes down.
4. Make this trip better than Las Vegas could've ever been. Besides, Vegas will always still be on the radar.

So finally trying to do some reading as of late. Just checked out a recent book by this motivational speaker whose seminar I recently attended. His name is Michael Vickers and he has a book called "Becoming Preferred". It's basically a good book for sales people that are starting out. Pretty interesting. I guess the best hint that I took away was about cold calling.

Law #3: Pretend you're on a first date with your prospect.
Get curious about them. Are they happy? Find out what they really want. When you learn what your customers need and you stop trying to convince or persuade them to do something they may not want to do, you'll find them trusting you as a valued advisor and wanting to do more business with you as a result.

Sounds very logical and makes a lot of sense...now if I can only remember these tips when I'm busy cold calling on 40 year old store managers that don't give a damn what a young looking Chinese guy is selling...sheesh.

By the way - to make things even more exciting, I'm going to be doing a day of prospecting tomorrow, but guess with what customer: T&T Supermarket!!! Saw Hotel Rwanda not too long ago. For those of you that don't know what it is, it basically talks about the a modern genocide that happened in Africa. Probably the bloodiest chapters in African history, what made the genocide more tragic was that the entire world almost turned a blind eye to it and chose to ignore the conflict of the Rwandan people. Over the course of 100 days, almost 1 million people were slaughtered on the streets painting the capital city red - but no one came to help. While the movie speaks of two tribes fighting for power, it speaks of an unlikely hero who sheltered the people of the opposing tribe while trying to save his own family at the same time. Anyway, Don Cheadle was fantastic in the film as I've always loved him as an actor and what made it more powerful of a movie was that it was based on a true story.

What is most shocking is that I had NO idea that this occurred which goes to show my ignorance and the entire Western world's shameful decision to not intervene in a mass 1 million death genocide in 1994. So while I was watching my faithful Canucks take it to the Stanley Cup finals in the summer of 1994, people were being brutally murdered in Africa and I had no idea. I hang my head in shame during such tragic times for being so narrow minded.

Apparently this movie opened a lot of people's eyes. Even Oprah Winfrey spoke about this issue and how "we as a social responsibility" can no longer not do anything because our excuse was that "we didn't know". Everyone is aware now and everyone bares the responsibility to help. Women, children and all were being mindlessly slaughtered - and it continues today. Many of those tribal extremists were forced into the Congo area, but the killing and murdering continues today. As you can see, I'm pretty affected by the movie and the entire issue so I urge you to watch the movie and allow it to help open your eyes - at least check out the site here.

Weekend was pretty laid back and relaxing. Had a BBQ at the beach which was excellent. Weather held up well and food was great. Missed out on JB's housewarming though...heard the food there was great as well. Oh well, as I said:

Howard Stern is leaving the E! channel and will most likely end up on Spike TV. I think this is a pretty awesome move, because Spike TV is awesome. They're always playing reruns of CSI and MXC, and that fills me with happiness and joy.

Apparently Ben Afflect likes to show off his nuts to random people. Christina Applegate says that while working on a film last year, Ben deliberately showed her his testicles while shooting a scene. And that's not all, he doesn't just show them to women. While shooting Jersey Girl, he would actually rest his balls on the back of Kevin Smith's neck during breaks. Ben continues to prove me wrong. Not only is he an untalented sack of poo, he also likes to go around "teabagging" his co-workers and show why he is a such a hot stud that can score J-Lo and Jennifer Garner. The thought of Affleck resting his scrotum on my neck fucking scares me shitless even more so than Chinese vampires do. And Chinese vampires are pretty darn scary.
Yeah, you wish I was making this crap up.

Christian Slater is being sued. A 52 year old victim was apparently grabbed by Slater and is now pursuing legal action against him because he ordered her not to press charges. I'm not worried though, since no jury in the world is ever going to believe that anybody would want to grab a 52 year old's ass, let alone Christian Slater. Seriously, that's gross.

According to good 'ol Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton threw a tantrum in a restaurant because no one would read the menu to her. Apparently she doesn't like reading. Paris has got to be the most entertaining gal on the planet. She pulls the kind of crap that you see on TV, except that its her real life. I'm hoping that the next news to come out is of Paris riding on the backs of servants instead of driving a car. She could even have a whip and yell things like "Faster!" Man, that would be great!

First off, Happy Canada Day to everyone.
As patriotic as I am - I did nothing "Canadian" today. Didn't play hockey, didn't eat bacon, didn't watch lumberjacks or have maple syrup on any of my meals. If fact, I played chess, ate Chinese, watched a movie and had Chinese hot sauce on my dim sum. How's that for patriotic? Didn't wear a single article of clothing that had red on it either...sheeesh...

Vegas trip is not coming along too hot...so far, 2 out of original 6 guy friends have already dropped out of the race due to financial reasons. For those of you that don't know, I'm hitting Sin City during the long weekend at the end of July for a few days with "DA BOYS". Good times indeed. Of course, the significant other half is hitting up London/Paris instead, but oh well, at least I'm not at home. She'll be going with Cat, who I think will be a great travelling buddy since she's a cool gal and always up for stuff. Right Cat? Vote for Pedro!...heh heh

I think the real challenge now is how many of us guys will actually still stay on board for this Vegas trip a few wks from now. Oh well, at least W, Eltro and KL is still on board. That's enough to ensure a fun ass trip. Latest rumours has it that Dyl might join us. Wow - that should be entertaining. Should be tons of fun right KL?

Just watched War of the Worlds today. Great intense thriller from Spielberg for the first 100 mins. Then the film is lacking a little for the last 20 mins. Great action though - and I do admit, a little eerie.

Tom Cruise - not bad - showed a lot more range in his acting than usual. Dakota Fanning - awesome as always. Special effects - seamless and really realistic!

Finally - an explanation...a few actually...
Can cold water boil faster than hot water?
This shouldn't defy common sense, and it doesn't - sort of. Hot water from tap should in fact boil much faster than cold water, but cold water "appears" to boil faster.
This seemingly simple question continues to generate considerable controversy.
Takamasa Takahashi, a physicist at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis., attempts a definitive answer:
"Cold water does not boil faster than hot water. The rate of heating of a liquid depends on the magnitude of the temperature difference between the liquid and its surroundings (the flame on the stove, for instance). As a result, cold water will be absorbing heat faster while it is still cold; once it gets up to the temperature of hot water, the heating rate slows down and from there it takes just as long to bring it to a boil as the water that was hot to begin with. Because it takes cold water some time to reach the temperature of hot water, cold water clearly takes longer to boil than hot water does. There may be some psychological effect at play; cold water starts boiling sooner than one might expect because of the aforementioned greater heat absorption rate when water is colder.

So to summarize:
-the time for hot water to boil is quicker than cold water boiling because temperature rises the same, but the stove takes time to heat to the temperature of the hot water, then it begins to boil. So for a period of time, nothing is happening.
-the time for cold water to boil takes the same time period as hot water to boil, but because the second that the stove element is turned on, the water is getting hotter as we speak so its working the whole time, thus we believe it is boiling faster.
Can cold water boil faster than hot water once its been boiled before?
Yes - this is true because boiling the water once and letting it sit till it gets cold rids of the dissolved oxygen usually found in water making it easier for the water to boil a second time around.
Can hot water freeze faster than cold water?
Yes, due to the Mpemba effect - see here for details.

The biggest surprise? All 4 actors that play the Fantastic Four have been signed on for the sequal AND the third installment over the next 12 years. We don't even know if it's going to be any good?!? Oh well, guess there's job security in the movie biz afterall...

Any dude that wears what he's wearing cannot possibly be swinging "the right way" if ya know what I mean.

The two dozen participants in the study ate sugar-free yogurt twice a day for six weeks, according to a report in the Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter.
Samples from their saliva and tongues were then compared to samples from a previous period in which they'd abstained from yogurt.
Eighty per cent of participants who'd had halitosis (bad breath) showed lower levels of the sulfide compounds after the yogurt regimen.

Saw Star Wars Episode III this past weekend. I must say, it was a rather good movie. If you had seen Episodes 4, 5 and 6, then you'll know how Episode III ends. But it wasn't about how it ends, more about how it plays out. Either way, I thought it was a good movie despite the 1.5 hour wait in line - at least I came out satisfied.

My Natatlie was also in the movie - not a great performance though. It wasn't really about how she acted, but that she had to recite the corny one liners that George Lucas had scripted for that character and this movie. Either way, thought her talent was under-utlized in this movie unlike her kick ass performance in Closer. There weren't any great scenes of her like the ones in Closer as well when she played Alice.

That's just f'n hot!

So go see the movie. Thought it was good with a lot of battle scenes, drama and excitement. Really visually stimulating. Makes you want to watch Episode 4 again - and realize how corny the visual effects are back in the day.

By the way, fact for all. George Lucas wrote all 6 Star Wars in sequence - meaning that the newly released Episodes I, II and III were all written prior to the release of the original 3 Star Wars. Oh, and here's Avril holding a lightsaber.

Ants are amazing creatures. These insects are so organized! I'm am totally baffled by how nature was able to create such incredible little creatures. So Mariah Carey finally releases a single worth listening to called "We Belong Together". It's been a while since I've actually been able to listen to a Mariah song that emulates the diva songstress voice that we all loved back in the day. For the last few years, all I've seen is cheesy songs by Mariah that sees her crossing over to the hiphop world where in essence, I think its her soulful voice that really makes "the song".

First, he is already schooling - which I've always thought was a full time gig in itself - yet, he still finds time to do his experience training with the school football team - THEN, he goes and parties when he can. Let's not even get started on his job that puts him through 3 time zones on any given day. Geez, talk about a meltdown ticking away. I watched "Closer" a while back - pretty good film. What I was more impressed with was Natalie Portman's acting. I heard she was nominated for an award - I think Golden Globes or something for best actress. This just cements her as another underrated actor in Hollywood. Always been near the top of my list. Have you seen "Closer"? Well, let's just say - being a guy - I'm more than impressed with her acting.

...so last weekend was Tom's BBQ shindig...what a great way to kick off the upcoming summer season. With the weather blaring, it was due time to have a get-together with everyone and enjoy some good ol' bbq food (was Shirley and I the only ones that actually made something???). Well, Windows won't start properly - not even in safe mode - which means I can't get into my harddrive or desktop for that matter - which means all 40+ albums and 700+ pictures that I've taken with my camera over the years went down the drain. Sorry guys - that's a lot of memories forever lost. While I continue to find ways to get into this computer of mine, I've just been doing work on my laptop. So while you think DC the camera man was having a blast being the papparazzi camera man that he was capturing everything on film, look for me to go buck wild with picture taking as I look towards beefing up that picture collection once again...*sigh*...starting from scratch....

Indeed it has been a while...

Wow - seems like forever since I've regurgitated some thoughts on this site. Oh well, life is busy these days - y'know with the new job and all. How goes it you ask? Well, still in the "familiarity" stage where I'm getting to know my clients, signing up accounts here and there, but not to the full extent that I should be. Either way, it's been a learning process for all - including my boss. Seen some co-workers already drop out of the race - apparently they weren't cut out for this job, but I'm liking it so far - still a ways to go though. Y'know what they say: 6 months to get used to the job, then 6 months to get good at the job.

On to better things:

Sunday was the first BBQ of the season. Excellent! Was a great feast and I was definitely already in the BBQ mode with the great weather and all. It was suppose to be a potluck, but not too sure how many people actually MADE something for the BBQ. Shir and I made stuffed mushroom caps...at least we did our part. Was nice to see everyone again - although it felt like a long time since all the friends have gotten together. Oh well, at least some of us picked up new hobbies and skillz...

Sun Run was last weekend - great event. Was able to hook my old Promotional firm up with some new business. Some Canadian Springs business to be exact. My new company with my old company - how sweet was that? Apparently the Promo firm did a great job (I was there to help) - so now, I look good in both of their eyes. Promo firm is glad I got them the business, Canadian Springs is glad I brought them such a great promo firm.

...ok, so Sunday passes...here's how the rest of the week broke down:

...everyday, we got up at 7am and there was a buffet breakfast. It was actually really good except for the whole waking up at 7am thing (3am PST), but there was even a chef at the front of the room standing behind a table that will make any omelette you wished. Sweet...I'm a big morning/breakfast kinda guy so that's when I have my biggest appetite.
...
...after that, there was always a pep rally to wake everyone up. That usually lasted for 30 minutes.
...
...for the rest of the day, we're in classroom settings and learning about "professional selling skills" - believe me, this is one awesome class. It really breaks down the entrenched habits all salespeople have and reteaches you a new and more efficient way of doing it all. I found it really valuable. With the skills I've learned, I truly believe that I can now sell ice to eskimos. Nah, kidding aside - it doesn't really matter what the product is to be a good seller...
...
...of course we get lunch breaks. Once again, these were some kick ass lunch buffets again. Dinner also was great. Besides, it wasn't just the sales reps, but also the entire company management (including the President) that was at the event; therefore, the food has to kind of build up the prestige...
...
...that was essentially how the monday - thursday week looked. Oh, by the way, topped off with the following:
1. regional break outs into role plays
2. presentations from president/retail managers/finance dudes...
3. snow tubing on the mountain
4. winter olympic games (which I won bronze in)
5. a presentation from a motivational speaker (got his book too)
6. and finally, hot tub+games room+karaoke+dancing+drinks everynight
...all in all, I guess you can assume that it was a happening week...

...so after catching the red eye last sunday for the Danone Waters week long training...I found it even more difficult to begin to even stay up during the flight out to the T dot. Besides, of all movies, they had to make us watch Finding Neverland - great movie I heard, but not when you're taking a 5am flight out of Vancouver...

Sunday March 6:

Just 24 hours after celebrating my last day at my last job, I find myself meeting all these new employees from my new job at the airport at 5am in the morning on Sunday. Oddly enough, I was one of two Asians that morning from a group of thirty somewhat people.
Weird things I noticed:
1. The other asian girl just got into a car accident - with a cheek that plump and lips that swollen - I could've sworn she was latina
2. One dude is way too sarcastic - espcially with his humour. I found it weird that he commented how he liked 'sausages in the morning - and not the type you eat" and not laugh at it...apparently he was being sarcastic...I reassured him that I ONLY like the sausages you can eat.
3. I had trouble getting through the express check-in at the airport. Apparently I was having trouble entering my confirmation number "one digit at a time" - how else do you fucking enter those numbers?
4. Why is it that when you carry something in your car, it's called a "shipment" and that when you carry something on a ship, its called "car"go?
5. KG wished me off with a phone call at 6am or so. That's so nice - but why the hell were you up at 6am?
...
Finally arrived in Tdot at 3pm EST, then had to take another 2 hour bus ride up to Kimberley ON (a winter resort). Man they called that a resort? More like a shack on a bunny hill. Bus driver was crazy - she stopped in an intersection - not AT an intersection - IN an intersection. Traffic had to halt while my fellow colleagues were already calling their life insurance brokers as this crazy lunatic driver was undoubtedly going to end our lives on the bus. Crazy women - she thinks first gear can actually go to fifth gear right away...man, that was an interesting drive...

Found an envelope on my bed when I checked into the room - it featured 2 drink tickets for 2 free drinks from the company for the reception party that was going to be happening immediately. That's it? Two? I made sure that I became friends with the bartender. His name was Ryan and boozing wouldn't be as much fun without the 2 free drink tickets from the company and the 6 free double-shot rum & cokes from Ryan...

What makes me proud was that he drops to his knees and manages to save all, but one beer...yes, my heart cries out for that one broken beer bottle as well. Naturally, the rest of us suggested that he should fall flat on his face, break his face and neck to even save that one beer, but oh well...

Well, well...another year and another Valentine's Day (V-Day) has passed. Another year for me and still have trouble planning the ultimate V-Day.

Let's check out how some other couples spent it:

1) Buddy of mine takes his girl to Elixir @ Opus Hotel - great food with a steak dish that practically melts in your mouth. Fantastic! I recommended this to him after a great time there during V-Day last year, but damn those prices! Note to all singles & bachelors out there: all restaurants charged ridiculous prices for an over-rated occasion already. By the way, damn their set menus! Not only do you have to overspend at elegant restaurants, but they have these damn set menus that you have to order. Anyhow, heard that buddy's girl had a great time; although my buddy had to cough up an arm and leg for those prices. KG: told you it was pricey!

2) This couple is the ultimate! They're both an anti-V-Day couple. Good job CG & JL!

3) Work buddy of mine had to spend V-Day away from his beau on V-Day. She lives in the T dot. Anyway, he orders flowers to be sent to her, but orders them from Vancouver. Stupid delivery company don't realize that the importance of sending something for V-Day is so that it "arrives" on V-Day. They delivered it on the 15th? What use is that?!? Work buddy goes off on the delivery dude and they throw in an extra bouquet of flowers. Note to delivery people: it's not really about the quantity on V-Day, but the quality!

4) Another work buddy borrows his parent's so-called SUV. It was a Honda CRV - that's not a SUV, it's an oversized coupe - anyway, I have personal hatred agaisnt CRVs. Feel free to ask me another time. So back to the story. He takes his girl with his SUV up to Squamish. That's where they had the first date. Then he parks it in some campground and surprises her by revealing the back of the CRV. What he did was remodel the entire back of the CRV (with seats down) into a movie lounge: complete with candles, a portable TV and curtains (yah, privacy needed). So they chilled there for the night and watched a movie together. Nice touch. Don't like how he raised the bar for the rest of us though.

5) My favorite: Buddy from work goes off during the entire week about how he has elaborate plans for the dreaded V-Day. What does he end up doing? He buys one single rose and makes a list of all the different things he loves about his beau. Wonderful I thought! Cheap - but thoughtful!

Lesson learned: Not really about the amount of money that you put into the day, but the thought and effort you put into your plans.

How did I spend V-Day with my signficant other? Well, let's find out:

Started off the day with a package that I gave to the girlfriend (GF). Packaged titled "Your adventure begins here..."

Inside the package was a bunch of clues for her to decipher about where we're going for the day and what we're doing for the day. She loves things like that. But here's the catch...

In order to "win" these clues, she must answer trivia questions regarding our relationship! That's right, turning the table around so that the guy is not always grilled. So questions include: "This is our a) 5, b) 6, c) 7, d) 8 that we're spending together" or "How long have we been together: a) 7 yrs 8 mo, b) 7 yrs 7 mo, c) 8 yrs 8 mo, or d) 8 yrs 7 mo." Well, you get the idea. Every time she got a question correct, she received a clue that will help her figure out where she was heading for the day. She also gets to answer bonus questions that wins her the gifts.

Gifts for the GF this year:
1) Bouquet of gerberas: GF's fave flowers - cheaper alternative to roses (score!)
2) Gloves: Yes! Gloves for discounted price because winter season is over, but if you know my GF and the type of job she has, you'll know that she's always cold.
3) Contour pillows: That's right! Those fancy pillows that shape to the contours of your head. GF didn't like it though. Said it wasn't soft enough.

Where did I take her?
1) Snow tubing @ Mount Seymour: Damn hills were closed! Oh well, that's a wrench thrown into the plans.
2) Ice skating @ 8 Rinks: Damn family skate hour! Oh well, supposedly we needed a family (a child) to be able to skate during family hour. Didn't work out.
3) Overnight @ Wedgewood Hotel: Nice little fancy boutique in Downtown. Didn't exactly get the room I wanted which featured a nice jacuzzi. Oh well...
4) Tix to the St. Valentine's Day Massacre @ Granville Island: Funny improv show...liked it...finally something works as planned.
5) Dinner @ Bucchus in Wedgewood: Nice French restaurant with good food. Good times.

Top that off with some wine in the room and breakfast in the morning and there's your V-Day package.

Yes, 1 more day and it will be New Year's Eve, but I have no plans what so ever. Thinking that I will either be sitting at home and watching Anderson Cooper at Times Square or sitting at the fountain at Kyle's place drinking outside, I needed plans quick. But here I am, 48 hours before New Year's and no plans. Someone help me?

Well, I definitely want to partay with my friends somewhere - which naturally means seeing at least one of them do the following things: 1) get caught with a picture of him/her with his/her face down the toilet, 2) get into an argument with some complete stranger and threaten the well being of the night and 3) throw up at least a few times during the drive home.

I've noticed something among my friends as I get another year older: both alcohol tolerance and the length of our hangovers is increasing. Not for me though. I actually was able to hold down more alcohol when I was about 17, but now, I get drunk quicker and wake up earlier. What the hell? It's quite a mystery given that I drink more frequently than I did when I was younger. My hangovers used to be twice as brutal. I swear once I actually threw up a day later. Isn't that impressive?

About a week and a half ago, I turned 23. Man, before you know it, I will reach that most dreaded of milestones, my 25th birthday. After that, it's all downhill. Why you ask? Well, soon I will have been alive a full quarter-century and classified as "late twenties". Before you turn 19, the last thing you want is to get ID'd at the clubs. Once you turn 19, you love getting ID'd at the clubs. Then you turn about 21 and you start getting annoyed when you're ID'd at the club. When you're thirty, you again love getting ID'd at the club. At 23, I don't know whether I should be insulted or flattered. I guess the more important question is, why have I not renewed my license yet and been driving illegally for the past 9 days?

...had some lunch with my coworkers at a nearby restaurant the other day on Broadway...
Have you ever used the bathroom in a restaurant and you have to go down a flight of stairs, hang a right, then a left, then a left, then down some more second flight of stairs till you hit the basement where the bathroom is? Then you come out of the bathroom and you're all disoriented and don't know how to get back through the labyrinth to your table so you end up like walking into the kitchen by accident or opening the wrong door and setting off the fire alarm and when you finally find the stairs (the first flight) and make it back to the dining area, you've been gone for half an hour and just wish that you had held it in until you got home? Yah, me neither. Fuck me.

Wow is this hour passing slooooooowly...gotta get outta here.
Here's some things that I'm thinking about:

1. How the hell do you make a pizza - me and Shir are suppose to make one - I think I have all the ingredients: cheese, dough, meat, sauce, cheese, cheese and cheese...again, I "think" I have all the ingredients.

2. Gotta play some Texas Hold'em sometime this weekend. Owe money to Jay and Eltro. Gotta neutralize the winnings/loss ratio.

3. Gotta get $ from Walker since he owes me from the hockey pool I won 2 seasons ago! Too bad he spends it on his girlfriend first - no wonder he never has any money to pay me back. Shady guy! Got bills I gotta pay - by the way, owe money to Jay & Eltro. Gotta neutralize my earnings/debt ratio.

4. Gotta use my anal-ism to plan for Whistler trip to prove that I'm king of event planning.

5. I used to blast the music in my car when I was a bit younger. My parents would never like it. They step in my car and the volume is blasting. Used to scare the begeezez outta them. Now that I've toned it down a notch (music too loud actually bothers me), I turn the music down a bit and now that my parents are losing their hearing a bit, we both actually listen at the same volume. Irony. Don't you love it?

Questions that I'm asking right now:

1. How does Donald Trump's hair kinda just float on his head like that?

2. Why are tracking numbers and confirmation numbers have to be all crazy? I just FEDEX'd something to Calgary and my FEDEX tracking # is 780.818.599.... Why can't it just be 7B?

3. Why do girls have bath products that smell sort of berry-like? In fact, my brother has some Garnier Fructus product that made him smell so delicious that I wanted to eat him.

4. My girl co-worker was telling me about a guy she met and how they talked for hours about poetry. What? Who the fuck has time to talk about such a subject for that long? And who has that much to say? Guys, whoever it is out there who is doing this, please stop! You're ruining everything for the rest of us!

5. My close girl friend was telling me about a guy she saw at the gym. Dark, Asian, but not that great looking. "He just has sex appeal". Does that mean she wants to get freaky with him and that's it? That's what I want to hear. Looks like I got hope afterall. Just gotta figure out how to obtain "sex appeal"...hmmm, maybe if I wear a trucker hat like that Ashton Kutcher dude...

6. Why do I close and lock the bathroom door when I’m alone in my house

7. What ever happened to Coolio?

8. Why are haircuts always so traumatic for girls?

9. Why do different shapes of pasta taste differently?

10. Ever pull over in your car when listening to music thinking that the cops are behind you, but it's actually the sirens blaring from that crazy rap music you got on? Yah, me neither.

What does this mean?
Well, given that most of my friends and myself have almost one grande coffee per day...let's do some calculations.

DC's typical day (all prices Canadian)
Average: 1 grande, no whip, extra hot MOCHA per day = $3.85 + GST = $4.14
Average: $4.14 x 5 days (I substitute coffee with beer on Fridays and Saturdays)
So...$4.14 x 5 days per week x 4 weeks/month x 12 months/year = $993.60

We'll assume that it is a 5% increase in prices. So...$993.60 x 1.05 = 1043.28

Which equals $1043.28 - 993.60 = $49.68 MORE that I'm paying over a year....
Not too bad, except that it equals 12 extra coffees for me!
What a rip off...

I'm the kind of guy that ALWAYS washes their hand after touching anything that can potentially be germ infested...not that I'm a total clean freak, but with the amount of food that I handle in any given day, it's only right to rid of any bacteria that's stuck under fingernails and jumping on your food. See, unlike my dad. I never hear the sink when he goes to the washroom - meaning that I'm not going near those hands...

However, whenever we leave the bathroom and then are immediately introduced to someone and shake their hand, do we really need to say "oh, it's just water" when referring to our wet hands. Isn't it hopefully safe to assume that if the hand is wet, that IT IS water? Maybe just to gross someone out one day, I'll just say "Hey, nice to meet you. I'm DC and I have no control over the way I spray so subsequently pissed all over myself."

Woke up late this morning, forgot to set my alarm the night before. Left my wallet on the kitchen table, had to go back. Wasn't sure whether I closed my garage door when I left, had to turn back. Bought coffee at Timmy's and gave the dude 50 cents short thinking that it was his fault. We just stared at each other blankly with me thinking about why he's taking so long to give change back...and him thinking why I'm staring at him expecting change back. Sat at the office till 3pm starving, but not wanting to spend more money to buy food, but realized that I brought a lunch to work today...geez louise, what a day! Then it him me!

So my friend Es calls me anal. Anal? Well, don't you hate this...and I KNOW you've seen this. I just went to buy a Timmy's coffee up the street at the gas station, but had to use the washroom really bad. Don't worry, it was a #1, not a #2. There's no way in hell you're getting me to sit on a public toilet AT A GAS STATION! Anyway, they were out of paper towels to wipe my hands so I had to use toiler paper.

You know what freaks me out? Wet fingerprints on the toilet paper roll!

It's bad enough that you're feeling dirty using a public GAS STATION washroom without having to look at the phantom presence of the previous shitter. Gross.
